I was inspired the other night by the 3-ingredient Happy Hour blog on using maple syrup for an old fashioned. It was simple, amazing, and delicious. So I took a look at my ingredient cupboard and found I still had some ginger maple syrup from a trip to Montreal from 2017, and I thought “why wouldn’t this work as well”. I can report that it works great with this version of the cocktail and is freaking delicious as an after dinner drink. It’s well balanced as not being too sweet, and has the hint of lemon peel in it to balance off the sweetness of the syrup.
1 Tbsp. Ginger Maple Syrup
1 Tsp. Fresh Lemon Juice
4″ of Lemon Peel Twist Size
2 oz. Whiskey (or bourbon)
6 Ice Cubes (2 in glass, 4 in the shaker)
3 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters
Shake in a cocktail shaker with all of the above and serve chilled in a lowball.
