Note: I have to start by saying that both the Isaacson (Freeman) and Trent family had versions of this recipe. The theory is that it originated during World War II when things such as butter and eggs were being rationed. However it came into being I’m very happy to share this recipe with everyone!
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tbsp. vinegar
- 1/3 cup (or 6 Tbsp) vegetable oil
Mix everything together well and pour into a greased 9″ x 9″ baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
